Set Design for "Beginnings" Finland 2011

I am currently engaged through EEA in the exciting pan-European arts project Platform 11+ aimed at engaging more 11-16 year olds in the arts.

My involvement in the project started in late 2009 when I worked as a creative director for a co-production between Lewisham Youth Theatre and EEA.  My work with the Youth Theatre involved delivering a number of creative workshops, developing set and costume designs, all culminating in two exhilarating performances of the School Ties interactive play, performed at an empty school in Deptford in Feb 2010.

Following this production, I represented EEA in June 2010 at the Portuguese open air Arts Festival which took place on the slopes of an olive grove, hosted by the Obando Theatre in Palmela.   Here I joined 14 other artists from Platform 11+ groups from aroundEuropeto create individual art works based on the theme of “the playground”.  My contribution took the form of an interactive sculpture, entitled; “Sink or Swim” produced in situ, using mostly recycled materials.

The next stage of the Platform 11+ project took me toFinland, where I designed stage sets and props for a three country co-production called, Beginnings.  Co-written by three writers from three different cultural backgrounds, then performed by three Finish actors, and directed by a British director.  The show premiered at the Children’s Festival atOulucity theatre,Finland, in February 2011 later becoming part of the theatre’s rep and traveling to five other Platform 11+ partner countries Russia Italy Portugal England and finally Germany as part of a separate festival of Children’s Theatre..
